(HELEN) On October 19th – during the peak weekend of Oktoberfest – Family Promise of White &
Habersham will launch its most exciting FUN-raising event of the year — THE GREAT HELEN DUCK RACE!
This is an event you won’t want to miss out on as we launch 2,400 unsinkable little yellow rubber ducks into
the Chattahoochee River across from Paul’s Margarita Deck and watch them race to the finish line at the
Helen Festhalle.
The first duck to cross the finish line will win a $1,000 cash prize for its sponsor. You do not
have to be present to win, but how could you miss this? It will quack you up!
Family Promise is selling sponsorships for each and every duck in the race. To sponsor one duck is only $5.00,
but a raft of five ducks can be sponsored for only $20.00.

tickets on-site in Helen until 4:00 pm the day of the race.
This year’s event also helps kickoff Family Promise Week as an opportunity to highlight the extent of the
need right here in our community. Family Promise of White & Habersham, an Affiliate of Family Promise, is
proud to be part of a nationwide effort to help children and families who are homeless regain their
sustainable independence.
The week of Sunday, October 20 through Sunday, October 27 is designated as Family Promise Week and will
help spread awareness of the crisis of family homelessness across communities in northeast Georgia.
Family Promise of White & Habersham was established in 2013 to assist families here in our own community.
Last year alone, Family Promise of White & Habersham’s 12 local church congregations and volunteers gave
14,261 volunteer hours, provided 3,583 bed nights and served 10,749 meals. They humbly served 27
children and 25 adults as well as supported 325 families by referral connecting them with additional
programs and services. The program’s success rate—families still sustaining independence—has grown to
85%.

Family Promise of White & Habersham (FPWH) is the only homeless shelter in White County and is an
essential resource for homeless children in Habersham and their families. FPWH provides services to both help
overcome and prevent homelessness through a strong network of local church congregations and volunteers
who provide overnight/weekend shelter, home-cooked meals, and loving fellowship for families who enter the
program for an average of three months. Comprehensive case management, education, training programs
and counseling services are made available to move our guests from a state of homelessness to a position of
self-sustainability.
